Composing for Genre
Modes, instrumentation & production styles, specific to horror, fantasy, action, comedy, romance & drama

Composing for Genre explores how musical language changes across different storytelling
worlds, from the tension of horror to the emotional depth of drama. This panel will look at
modes, instrumentation, and production techniques that help define each genre, and how
composers tailor their approach to support tone, pacing, and narrative. Panelists will discuss how they balance creative instincts with genre conventions, and how composers develop a flexible musical voice while meeting the expectations of different worlds and narratives.
