What is the current landscape of being a composer and songwriter in 2025?

Since the beginning of notated music, the legal and economic landscape for composers and songwriters has been an ever-changing field and this time is no different. Streaming services present new opportunities and new concerns for artists. AI also presents new questions about legal, economic, and ethical rights. We have a panel of industry experts to weigh in on these topics and more, including SCL President Ashley Irwin, Co-Presidents of the Alliance for Woman Film Composers, Allyson Newman and Heather McIntosh, Film / TV Composer Raashi Kulkarni, and President of the Composers Diversity Collective, Sandro Morales. Here they’ll discuss keeping up with continuously updating laws and technology, as well as the climate of the industry for underrepresented and diverse groups.
