John DeFaria

Emmy- nominated for best Music and Sound Design, SongArts co-chair for the Society of Composers and Lyricists

John DeFaria had over 10,000 music placements in a wide range of media including TV shows,
documentaries, movies, animation, commercials, jingles, trailers, online promos, and streaming services.
He began his musical career after graduating from the University of Miami Frost Studio Music and Jazz
School, and toured and recorded with Gloria and Emilio Estefan and The Miami Sound Machine for 8
years. He also co-wrote the song “Get On Your Feet” for which he won an ASCAP Pop Award for one of
the most played songs of the year. He was also awarded a Golden Reel Award for a NatGeo
documentary he scored, and an ASCAP Screen award for a theme he wrote for a top-rated animated
series.
He also toured with Kenny Loggins, Kitaro, Ambrosia, and Jon Anderson of Yes. He has recorded on
numerous movie scores such as Holes, Ghosts of the Abyss, Uptown Girls; commercials for Direct TV and
Subaru; and countless television shows. For the PBS documentary series Ocean Adventures with Jean
Michel Cousteau he was nominated for an Emmy Award for best Music and Sound Design. And he wrote
the music for Dukes of Hazzard 2 – The Beginning, and has also composed for a wide range of Music
Libraries.
John also serves as SongArts co-chair for the Society of Composers and Lyricists.
