Music Director/Producer/Composer Ray Chew’s work can be found across multiple networks and
platforms both in front of the camera and behind the scenes in tentpole television series and specials as
well as the podcast arena with Audible’s Breakthrough – the first singing competition series developed
and launched exclusively as a podcast.
In the fall of 2024, he returned for his 15th season in front of the camera as Music Director on ABC's
Dancing with The Stars – leading the live band and producing his vibrant takes on current and classic hits
for the 10th year of the Emmy Award winning reality TV competition.
Ray’s work as Music Producer can also be heard on television specials, including the 33rd Annual SAG
Awards on Netflix, The 98th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, multiple Rockefeller Christmas Tree
Lighting broadcasts and NBC’s Emmy Nominated special supporting Broadway Cares - One Night Only:
The Best of Broadway. For over a decade – Ray’s unique productions provided the sound design for Miss
Universe broadcasts as well as other televised pageants. His original orchestral compositions were on full
display during two consecutive Macy’s Fireworks Spectacular on NBC.
Ray’s tenure as Music Director for series network television started with the longest running show in
syndication – It’s Showtime at the Apollo (NBC). It continued with American Idol (FOX), Sunday’s Best
(BET), Rising Star (ABC), and Singing Bee (NBC). Ray and his team also provided the music and vocals for
the highly rated game show hosted by Ken Jeong – I Can See Your Voice which aired for 3 seasons on FOX.
His achievements behind the scenes extend to film as well with Music Composer and Music Supervisor
credit on T.D. Jakes’ spring 2023 release of the Lifetime movie Pride: A Seven Deadly Sins installment –
boasting over 2.2 million views in it’s first week and over 9 million views for the franchise.
Ray's music direction is sought after for prestigious music specials and historic landmark events including
the annual the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards, the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony, the 2008
Democratic National Convention, President Barak Obama’s Inaugural Neighborhood Ball, the 44th Annual
NAACP Image Awards and the BET Awards from 2006 - 2014.
Some of Rays’ live performances at the helm of award-winning musical events have recently gone viral
with the world's most popular artists including Rihanna, Chaka Khan, Prince, Pharrell Williams, Justin
Timberlake, Aretha Franklin, Lenny Kravitz, Pitbull, Queen Latifah, James Taylor, Pastor Shirley Caesar,
Jennifer Hudson and Quincy Jones.
His work with orchestras as a conductor and a composer has carried him to prestigious venues all over
the world - From the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles to the Oslo Spektrum in Norway to Carnegie Hall
and the Lincoln Center in New York.
New York’s famed Carnegie Hall is where Ray and his wife/business partner - Vivian Scott Chew – produce
and perform "A Night of Inspiration" to sold out audiences since 2010. The all-star concert promotes
diversity and unity with a 64-piece orchestra and 150 mass choir featuring notable artists from the gospel
and secular communities. This is one of many productions from the duo and their long-standing
relationship with Carnegie Hall. On the calendar for 2026, The Chews will be presenting the opening
night of Carnegie Hall’s “United in Sound” festival in celebration of the 250th Anniversary of America.
Ray Chew’s indelible mark on the music industry landscape is vast, having been recognized and awarded
by several organizations including the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (Grammys), The
American Federation of Musicians, The California Black Caucus, The Living Legends Foundation, NYC
Musicians Collective, The City of New York, Newark School of the Arts, National Music Council, The Jessie
Banks Foundation, and most recently the Christian Cultural Center for his career achievements and
philanthropic work with the Power 2 Inspire Foundation. The non-profit was founded in 2013 by Ray and
Vivian to empower young, aspiring musicians and future leaders in the music industry thru a virtual
internship program and continuous mentoring support. The foundation fosters opportunities for
talented musicians, singers, songwriters, and business executives who share a passion for
creating “Music with a Heart” through workshops, lectures, and masterclasses. Over 150 young
creatives have completed the program since its inception and have gone on to make an impact
as musicians, vocalists and executives in the business – furthering Ray and Vivian’s commitment
to reach back and guide the next generation of music industry icons.
Ray is currently working on his anticipated follow-up album to the release of his 2024 single
“JAM!” featuring Stephanie Mills, Kid Capri, M.C. Lyte and Doug E. Fresh.
