Anjimile Opens a New Chapter with You’re Free to Go

Anjimile has announced a new full-length album, You’re Free to Go, set for release on March 13, 2026 via 4AD. Alongside the announcement, the North Carolina–based singer-songwriter shares the luminous lead single “Like You Really Mean It,” which can be heard here, accompanied by a tender roller-skating video directed by Caity Arthur. The album is now available to pre-order and save here.

Overflowing with warmth and vulnerability, “Like You Really Mean It” captures a quiet moment of longing and affection. Anjimile shares:

“I wrote this to make my girlfriend want to give me a kiss. We live about an hour apart, and I was just by myself thinking about her. Thinking about wanting a kiss. What could I do to get a kiss from my sweetheart? Write a song about it! Anyway, it worked.”

The song follows November’s reflective single “Auld Lang Syne II,” a delicate meditation on resilience and hard-won freedom that can be streamed here.

Produced by Brad Cook (Waxahatchee, Bon Iver, Mavis Staples), You’re Free to Go unfolds with ease and intention, grounded in warm acoustic guitars, subtle synths, lush string arrangements, and intimate performances. The album features collaborations with Nathan Stocker (Hippo Campus), Matt McCaughan (Bon Iver), and Sam Beam (Iron & Wine), whose gentle presence deepens the album’s emotional core.

Following the intensity of The King (2023), You’re Free to Go opens its hands wider, exploring love, freedom, grief, and renewal with tenderness and clarity. At its heart, the album asks a simple but resonant question: what happens when you let go and let love in?
