Captain Murphy, the alter ego for hip-hop artist Flying Lotus, returned this month with "Mudhole," an original track for Lionsgate's smash martial-arts hit "The Furious," now playing in theaters. The song features production from Little Snake, Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder labelmate. Captain Murphy has just unveiled the official music video for “Mudhole,” edited by Flying Lotus’s longtime collaborator, Strangeloop.

A rage-fueled, menacing new track, "Mudhole" features Captain Murphy entering with a cold flow, hyping up his own power and designer gear over Little Snake’s thunderous production. The track's production blends in everyday sounds - like a car unlocking or an exaggerated cinematic wind whoosh - and twists them into unsettling textures, merging with the music in a barrage of force that hits the listener hard. Get out of the way, or get sucked into the mudhole.

"Mudhole" is the perfect companion piece to "The Furious," itself a story of rage, revenge, and unrelenting fury. Wang Wei (Xie Miao), suffers tragedy as his daughter is kidnapped by a network of criminals. The police are corrupt and offer no help. Wei's only chance to find his daughter is to head out on a rampage and find her himself - but he has one ally, Navin (Joe Taslim), a journalist on a similar quest, whose wife has disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Both men fight relentlessly against the kidnappers in an incredible showcase of martial arts fury and prowess.
The track also features visuals created by Lilfuchs (Adam Fuchs), a frequent collaborator of Flying Lotus and longtime Adult Swim animator, who helped develop the original imagery for the Captain Murphy project when it first emerged online in 2012.

With Flying Lotus back in a big way, his fans have a lot to look forward to, as the musician's been busy in 2026 with a number of hit projects. Recent releases include the "Big Mama" EP, and a reissue of his debut album "1983" as part of Record Store Day. Later on during the summer, he'll be leading a live band as part of a bi-coastal residency at the Blue Note Jazz Clubs, performing in both Los Angeles and New York City.
The Furious is directed by Kenji Tanigaki and written by Mak Tin Shu, Lei Zhilong, Shum Kwan Sin, and Frank Hui. The film is produced by Bill Kong, Shan Tam, and Frank Hui. Presented by Lionsgate, The Furious is an Edko F
ilms and Zhejiang Hengdian Film production in association with XYZ Films.
