Los Angeles-based project Crimes of Passion, the alias of producer Robert Ruby, returns with “Too Late,” the third and final single ahead of the upcoming EP Coasting, arriving May 30.
Positioned within a contemporary electronic pop space, “Too Late” blends indie dance with layered rhythmic textures.
The track draws on a range of influences, echoing artists such as Peggy Gou, LCD Soundsystem, and Caribou, while incorporating elements like steel drum samples, piano-driven motifs, and guitar flourishes.
Written during the early stages of lockdown in 2020, the track carries a sense of emotional tension beneath its groove-driven structure.
Conceptually, “Too Late” centers on relational imbalance, exploring the emotional dynamics of longing and attachment. Described by Crimes of Passion as an “angsty indie dance” track, the song reflects both personal and fictional narratives, framing vulnerability within a more rhythmically driven, outward-facing sound.

The upcoming EP Coasting will feature five tracks that continue to develop this hybrid sonic approach, combining modern electronic production with influences drawn from multiple cultural and musical traditions.
Recorded over the past several years, the project reflects Robert Ruby’s broader musical background, shaped by experiences across different regions and genres.
Born to British parents in the Chicago area and raised in the American South, Ruby developed an eclectic musical foundation that informs the project’s stylistic range.
As a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, writer, and producer, he draws on punk, new wave, indie rock, and house music, crafting a sound that moves between familiarity and experimentation.
“Too Late” is available now on streaming platforms. Coasting arrives May 30.
