LABRFF: Celebrating Brazilian Cinema in Los Angeles

The 18th edition of the Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival is taking place this week at The Culver Theater, featuring an extensive lineup of film screenings and with its closing event still to come.
The festival officially opened this past Monday with the screening of Yanuni, a film produced by Anita Ladkani, Richard Ladkani, Juma Xipaia, Leonardo DiCaprio, Phillip Watson, and Jennifer Davisson. Yanuni tells the powerful story of Indigenous chief Juma Xipaia who fights to protect tribal lands despite assassination attempts, her struggle intensifies after learning she’s pregnant, while her husband, Special Forces ranger Hugo Loss, stands by her side.
The opening ceremony was a sold-out event, attended by renowned figures of Brazilian cinema including Alexandre Borges, Reginaldo Faria, Maiara Walsh, Vaneza Oliveira, Enzo Romani, and many others.
