Benign Envy Explores Healing, Identity, and Love in Vibrant New Single “Color”

Los Angeles-based pop-rock artist Benign Envy has released her new single “Color,” a bold and emotionally charged anthem that captures the complexities of love, self-growth, and authenticity. Released on February 14, the track arrives as a fitting Valentine’s Day soundtrack, one that celebrates love not just as romance, but as personal healing and self-acceptance.

Blending introspective lyricism with electrifying pop-rock energy, “Color” showcases Benign Envy’s ability to fuse vulnerability with mainstream appeal. The track’s dynamic vocals, catchy hooks, and emotionally resonant themes reflect the whirlwind of emotions that come with falling in love while learning to fully embrace yourself. From longing and insecurity to empowerment and clarity, the song paints a kaleidoscopic portrait of emotional growth.

Written and performed by Erin Donahue, the creative force behind Benign Envy, the track was brought to life by producer Nathan Engelmann, guitarist David Spitzfaden, drummer Ryan Elliott, and bassist Matthew McMenamy. Together, they craft a polished yet raw soundscape that balances pop sensibilities with a rock edge, positioning “Color” as both a personal statement and a universally relatable anthem.

The single also marks a thematic evolution in Benign Envy’s songwriting. Reflecting on its origins, the artist shared:

“I wrote ‘Color’ in response to an older song of mine called ‘Co-Dependency’. Although that song is another one of my favorites, it illustrates loving someone who is not actively working on themselves, loving someone through the static. I wanted a stronger love to relate to, one that involved self-healing and growth, a love that was easy because of our own acceptance of ourselves. The result was a song about feeling love in full color.”

“Color” continues Benign Envy’s growing catalog of deeply personal yet widely resonant music, reinforcing her reputation as an artist unafraid to explore mental health, self-image, and identity through honest storytelling. Her work explores mental health, self-image, and the quiet power of learning who you truly are.

Based in Los Angeles, Benign Envy has built a reputation for her energetic stage presence and emotionally raw songwriting, performing at iconic venues such as The Viper Room, El Cid, and Whisky-a-Go-Go. Her name itself, Benign Envy, represents the kind of envy that inspires growth, a catalyst for becoming a better version of oneself. Through emotionally charged melodies and candid narratives, she encourages listeners to find confidence from within and embrace their authentic selves.

With “Color” ushering in what she calls a new era of “gritty lover girl” pop-rock, Benign Envy is carving out a space that blends emotional honesty with infectious hooks, music that feels just as at home on a Valentine’s Day playlist as it does in moments of personal reflection.
