Mortal Kombat II (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is now available via WaterTower Music, featuring an original score by composer Benjamin Wallfisch alongside a newly reimagined version of the franchise’s iconic theme, “Techno Syndrome.”
The release arrives in tandem with the film’s theatrical rollout, expanding the sonic identity of one of gaming’s most recognizable universes while honoring its legacy.
Built to match the scale, intensity, and mythology of the film, the score channels the high-impact energy that has defined Mortal Kombat for decades. At the center of the release is a new version of “Techno Syndrome,” featuring vocals from franchise co-creator Ed Boon, along with an official music video released alongside the soundtrack.
Rather than simply revisiting familiar themes, Benjamin Wallfisch approaches the score with a cinematic expansion, retaining the franchise’s aggressive edge while introducing greater emotional depth.
Wallfisch shares:
“Scoring Mortal Kombat has been a truly special creative experience. It is a world of immense scale, intensity, and mythology, but what inspired me most was the emotion and humanity that [director] Simon McQuoid and the entire filmmaking team brought to it beneath the spectacle. In creating this music, I wanted to honor the legacy of Mortal Kombat while bringing depth, feeling, and cinematic scope to its story. This album reflects the extraordinary work of so many brilliant musicians and collaborators, and I’m deeply grateful to all of them for helping bring it to life. I’m very proud to share this music, and I hope listeners enjoy experiencing it as its own journey.”
In addition to the core score, the release includes reinterpretations that extend the musical universe of the franchise, such as “Mortal Kumbia,” a cumbia-inspired version of “Techno Syndrome” by Amantes del Futuro, offering a cross-cultural take on the iconic theme.
The rollout also extends beyond music through an interactive playlist generator experience, allowing fans to “choose their fighter” and unlock personalized soundtracks, bridging the film, its music, and the game’s legacy in a more immersive format.
Directed by Simon McQuoid, Mortal Kombat II continues the high-stakes mythology of the franchise, with Karl Urban stepping into the role of Johnny Cage alongside a returning ensemble that includes Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, and Hiroyuki Sanada.
The film builds on the universe established in the 2021 installment, bringing its signature blend of spectacle and combat-driven storytelling to a broader cinematic scale.
Benjamin Wallfisch has become one of the defining composers of contemporary blockbuster cinema, with a filmography spanning over 80 features and grossing more than $2.6 billion worldwide.
His credits include Blade Runner 2049 (with Hans Zimmer), It and It: Chapter Two, Shazam!, The Flash, Hidden Figures (with Pharrell Williams and Zimmer), and more recently, he scored Twisters, Alien: Romulus, and Kraven the Hunter, while also contributing to Dunkirk at the invitation of Zimmer.
Beyond film, Wallfisch is an accomplished concert composer and performer, having led major orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and performed at venues such as the Hollywood Bowl and the Sydney Opera House.
Mortal Kombat II (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is now streaming on all major platforms, with deluxe vinyl editions of both Mortal Kombat (2021) and Mortal Kombat II also available.
