GALVEZTON Releases Sophomore Album Ocean Cabaret

On April 3rd, Texas-based artist GALVEZTON released his sophomore album Ocean Cabaret via La Izquierda Records. The project introduces a textured blend of folk instrumentation, raspy vocal delivery, and a genre-spanning approach that draws from indie and alternative influences.

Named after an abandoned strip club in Galveston, Texas, Ocean Cabaret is shaped by a strong sense of place and identity.

The album merges classic songwriting traditions associated with Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan with more atmospheric and experimental elements reminiscent of Yo La Tengo and The Velvet Underground, resulting in a sound that feels both grounded and expansive.

Recorded between 2022 and 2024 at La Izquierda headquarters in Galveston, Texas, the album reflects Robert Kuhn's period of personal and artistic development as the artist behind GALVEZTON.

Across the project, his vocal performances carry an unpolished quality that emphasizes emotional immediacy, allowing the material to unfold with a sense of intimacy and directness.

Released ahead of the album, “Roll To G-Town” serves as a central statement of the project’s themes.

The track reflects Kuhns connection to the Lone Star State, highlighting the cultural and musical influences that have shaped his work while reinforcing the album’s broader sense of regional identity.

Robert Kuhns musical foundation was shaped early on through exposure to artists such as Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, and The Band, as well as a strong family connection to music.

Following the pandemic, his creative direction expanded through his involvement with La Izquierda, a Galveston-based surf and music initiative that has grown into both a festival platform and a record label supporting Gulf Coast artists.

Through these efforts, Kuhn has played an active role in building a local creative community, bridging music, culture, and place.
