"Marvel's Wolverine" Releases Soundtrack Album From Emmy-Winning Composer David Fleming

"Marvel's Wolverine" first announced its composer, David Fleming, to a packed crowd at San Diego Comic Con. Fleming, who's recently written the scores to "Widow's Bay," "The Last of Us," and "Superman," immediately created a sense of huge anticipation amongst the marvel fans ready to unleash Wolverine and his iconic claws on Playstation 5. Now, Hollywood Records has also released the Original Video Game Soundtrack, available now on all major digital streaming platforms.
Here's what Fleming has to say about his latest superhero score:
“It only seemed right that I would start creating the music for Wolverine in the wilderness, or the closest thing I could find - a barn in the California desert packed with instruments more typical of a western than of a Super Hero story. Wolverine is, of course, a Super Hero - one of the most beloved - but it's what makes him unique within that pantheon that resonates with me and so many. He feels like a man out of time - his archetype more in step with gunslingers of the western frontier or the wandering ronin of feudal Japan. Most crucially - there is a conflict at his core. Logan is at once a feral, animalistic loner while also a man of deep emotion, with a sense of honor as unbending as his metallic skeleton. His reclusive nature belies a heart in search of belonging, and of its own purpose. I was thrilled to get the chance to explore Logan's complexity through music, and to help shape this character I've loved since reading Wolverine comics as a kid.
Of course, the Marvel universe is full of colorful characters, and it was an insane and exciting challenge to color the score in a similar way - brutally distorted sadist-rock for Sabretooth, undulating harp arpeggios and guitars for Jean Grey. In truth, I much prefer talking about the characters than the sound of the music itself. If ‘symphonic techno-western’ seems like nonsense, it's because it is and should never be spoken of again. The score simply strives to be as exciting and multi-faceted as the heroes and villains of this incredible story, and it was an absolute pleasure to go on that journey with my friends at Insomniac Games, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Marvel Games.”
David Fleming is an Emmy-winning composer whose cinematic scores span film, television, and games. His credits include James Gunn’s “Superman,” HBO’s “The Last of Us,” and Ron Howard’s “Jim Henson: Idea Man,” which earned him a Primetime Emmy and ASCAP Composer’s Choice Award. He has also scored “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” Apple TV+’s “Widow’s Bay,” Sony’s “Anaconda,” and A24’s “Eternity.” His upcoming work includes Marvel’s “Wolverine” and “Superman” sequel “Man of Tomorrow.”
