Thundercat Announces New Album Distracted, Out April 3 via Brainfeeder

Thundercat has officially announced his long-awaited fifth studio album exactly six years after his last release, Distracted, arriving April 3 via Brainfeeder. The album marks a new chapter for the genre-bending bassist and songwriter, featuring an impressive lineup of collaborators including Mac Miller, Lil Yachty, WILLOW, A$AP Rocky, Tame Impala, and Channel Tres.

Alongside the announcement, Thundercat has shared the album’s lead single, “I Did This To Myself (feat. Lil Yachty)”, produced with longtime collaborator Flying Lotus. The track leans into humor and self-awareness, capturing the awkward, digitally driven dynamics of modern relationships, an emotional thread that runs throughout Distracted. Listen to “I Did This To Myself (feat Lil Yachty)” here.

Created primarily in collaboration with superproducer Greg Kurstin, Distracted explores the tension between overstimulation and introspection. Sitting somewhere between the chaos of Drunk and the vulnerability of It Is What It Is, the album reflects on how distraction can be both a burden and a coping mechanism in today’s hyperconnected world.

With artwork by Grammy-nominated photographer Neil Krug, Distracted  promises a thoughtful yet playful listening experience. As Thundercat puts it simply: enjoy it, keep pushing forward, and make something beautiful out of the noise.

Distracted is out April 3 via Brainfeeder Records.
