Thundercat Releases New Single and Video “She Knows Too Much (feat. Mac Miller)” Ahead of Distracted

Thundercat has shared a new single and animated video, “She Knows Too Much (feat. Mac Miller),” from his upcoming fifth studio album Distracted, due April 3 via Brainfeeder Records. The track, which features the late Mac Miller, was selected as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record and arrives with a visually rich video directed by Léa Esmaili and produced by Blinkink.

A bittersweet collaboration between two close friends and collaborators, “She Knows Too Much” captures Thundercat and Mac Miller in a laidback, effortless groove. Mac’s carefree delivery pairs with Thundercat’s signature bass lines and airy falsetto, creating a warm, nostalgic atmosphere that feels both intimate and timeless. Thundercat completed the song with producer Greg Kurstin after receiving permission from the Mac Miller Estate to finalize the track for release.

“I’m grateful to have spent my time on this planet with Mac,” Thundercat shares. “What an artist, what a spirit, what a joy to have experienced.”

Director Léa Esmaili described the animated video as a personal tribute, blending 2D and 3D animation styles to tell a playful, burlesque story about friendship. She explained:

I wanted to build a burlesque narrative around two friends who spend a completely crazy day together, tied to their friendship and to anime of this kind."

Distracted arrives six years after Thundercat’s Grammy-winning It Is What It Is and finds the artist exploring the tension between overstimulation and introspection in the digital age. The album reflects on technological “progress,” modern distractions, and the disconnect between childhood dreams and adult reality, while still embracing humor, daydreaming, and creative freedom. “Sometimes you need to be distracted to focus in a different way,” Thundercat declares.

The album features an eclectic roster of collaborators, including WILLOW on “ThunderWave,” Channel Tres on “This Thing We Call Love,” and A$AP Rocky on “Funny Friends.” The record’s artwork was created by Grammy-nominated photographer Neil Krug, adding to the project’s cinematic scope.

In the years since It Is What It Is, Thundercat has continued to expand his creative footprint with collaborations alongside A$AP Rocky, Tame Impala, Gorillaz, Silk Sonic, Kaytranada, and Justice, as well as acting roles in Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett and appearances on Yo Gabba Gabbaland. His presence across music, television, and live performance has solidified him as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music.

Ultimately, Distracted is an invitation to embrace confusion, humor, and creative chaos. As Thundercat puts it, the goal is simple: “Just enjoy it and have fun… and just keep pushing forward.”
