Persephone Godwin is a solo recording artist, songwriter, and lyricist residing in Los Angeles, California. Her first album "I'll Be Ready In A Minute..." won a Jim Beam Emerging Artist grant propelling her to work on numerous projects, including lending harmonies to artists as diverse as Hal Ketchum, Willie Nelson, Michael Spriggs, and most recently contributing vocals to electronic music with OpulentSounds. Along with her partner Matt Richardson, she co-founded film production company Pele Pictures LLC, creating the award-winning music video for their single Love Me So Much, taking home film festival awards for Best Music Video, Best Female Solo Artist, and Best EDM/Dance.
Persephone received her BA in Music Studies at Berklee College of Music Online where she met composer/artist Carisa Bianca Mellado and performed in a solstice opera by Mellado’s darkwave indie band “Night Tongue” and collaborated with the band on the score for the Pele Pictures art documentary “Nature Humaine”. She is now performing in the choir for the Night Temple composer showcase series where her latest song “Feel the Sun” was featured in July 2025.

We've asked Persephone a few questions about her career and relationship with The Night Temple:
Who or what are your biggest creative inspirations?
I have quite a few inspirations, but my earliest and most enduring are Suzanne Vega and Annie Lennox, two very different artists, yet both deeply complex and original in their writing. I connect strongly with Annie’s passion for activism and human rights, even though those themes don’t always appear overtly in her lyrics or mine.
What moves me most is how her music transforms darkness and injustice into light and hope, that’s something I strive for in my own work. I believe every artist creates to bring hope to themselves first, and if we’re lucky, we get to share that hope with others.
In your opinion, what is the best thing about being part of a creative community like The Night Temple?
It's such a wonderful experience to perform with so many diverse composers, the choir and string quartet, often with minimal rehearsal time. I'm most happy when I'm collaborating with others - it's the best way to stretch your talents, learning from and with other professionals and creative artists.
We loved having you showcase your music in one of our events! Can you tell us more about your experience performing your song?
In July 2025, I had the honor of performing my piece Feel the Sun with The Night Temple string ensemble and choir. Sharing the stage with such gifted musicians was deeply humbling, each one brings their own artistry and spirit.
I approach every concert with curiosity, never knowing what genres we'll explore or who we will be creating with. My listening habits have always been eclectic, personal listening and taste, so being part of a global musical community that blends styles and cultures is endlessly inspiring.
We’d love to hear about your upcoming projects, can you share a bit more?
Matt and I have so many new projects in the pipeline that we’re excited to share. They’re taking shape slowly, and we’re letting them unfold in their own time as we explore new technologies. Life’s thrown us a few curveballs, and we’ve learned how vital balance is. We’ve felt stretched, but we’re finding our rhythm again. One day soon we’ll surface with something new, something light, something hopeful, and we can’t wait to share it.
