"The Uprising" - the latest from Focus Features, has just announced its official Original Motion Picture Soundtrack release, from Back Lot Music. Featuring music by the Academy Award-winning composer Volker Bertelmann, the album is available everywhere digital music can be sold and streamed.

Here's what Bertelmann has to say about his latest score:

"Working on "The Uprising" in collaboration with Paul Greengrass was a wonderful experience. The biggest challenge was finding a modern approach to a medieval era and capturing the rawness of that time without veering into the thriller genre. I worked with distorted cello sounds to make the score feel more dystopian, while at the same time giving it a touch of a modern bagpipe atmosphere to lend the music a hint of a tribal character. Much of medieval music revolves around a simple fifth, and I tried to retain this as a fundamental foundation. I love the story of "The Uprising" because it draws many parallels with the present day and offers insights into how power was wielded in political life centuries ago and the similarities we see today. It’s a pleasure to be a creative part of this film."

In "The Uprising," Andrew Garfield stars as a rebellion leader, ferociously fighting against King Richard II. Based on the real events that inspired the legend of Robin Hood, Garfield's character builds an army of common people to face down the tyrannical King in a struggle for justice. The film is in theaters now.

Volker Bertelmann makes music that seems to exist slightly outside the frame. As Hauschka, the German pianist and composer has spent decades transforming the piano into something stranger - part percussion instrument, part machine, part field of clicks, thuds, and prepared-metal resonance. Across more than 20 albums and EPs, his work moves freely between contemporary classical composition, improvisation, and experimental sound.

That restless approach has made Bertelmann one of cinema’s most distinctive composers. He won the Academy Award, BAFTA, and German Film Award for Edward Berger’s "All Quiet on the Western Front," following an Oscar nomination for "Lion," co-scored with Dustin O’Halloran. His score for "Conclave" earned another Academy Award nomination, while his television work on "Dune: Prophecy" brought a Primetime Emmy nomination.

His filmography spans "A House of Dynamite," "The Amateur," "The Old Guard," "Stowaway," "Ballad of a Small Player," "Panic Carefully," and "The Day of the Jackal," alongside recent projects including "Clayface," "The Uprising," "Verity," "Bunker," and "Pressure." Whether working with an orchestra or a prepared piano, Bertelmann treats sound as something physical - something that can scrape, fracture, pulse, and reshape the image around it.
